Frequently Asked Questions

How much do your services cost?

I charge a flat hourly fee for all the services I perform in addition to any travel and out-of-pocket expenses. A full fee schedule is available upon request. My fees are calculated on the basis of time involved, complexity of the case, and the type of services rendered. Fees generally include interview time, review of documents, test administration, test evaluation, test expenses, integration and synthesis of data, consultation time with you, report preparation, deposition preparation, depositions, and trial testimony.

What is the process of retaining your services?

After you call me, we will determine whether I have the skills, education, and experience to offer expert opinions in your case. Then, if you conclude that my expertise may be beneficial to your case, I will send you a copy of my retainer agreement. Once it is signed and an initial case retainer is paid, I will then review the documents in your case and/or evaluate your client. At the conclusion of my evaluation, I will give you my opinions and conclusions. If you find my expert opinion useful to you, you will then provide a report/deposition retainer. Next, I will prepare a report if requested and be available to testify at trial and/or deposition.

Do you provide preliminary or initial evaluations/conclusions?

No. I do not offer opinions or conclusion about any facet of your case prior to reviewing all relevant information and conducting a thorough evaluation.

Do you provide services out of state?

Generally, yes. I am able to offer services in all 50 states. Because each state licensure law is different, I may need to obtain permission from the state licensure board before offering services directly. In addition, I have ASPPB Interjurisdictional Practice Certificate (IPC) from the Association of State and Provisional Psychology Boards, which allows me to practice in states that recognize this certificate.

Do you conduct child custody cases?

No. I do, however, conduct fitness to parent evaluations.

Do you take cases pro bono?

Generally, no. The time and expense involved in conducting forensic evaluations precludes offering free services. However, I may be able to donate my time in cases that require my expertise.

Do you work with or evaluate children?

No. Although I have extensive past experience evaluating children, I do not currently see children in my practice.

Are you only a forensic psychologist?

No. I also teach at the University of Southern California, I have a private practice where I see patients, and I supervise other clinicians for the State Bar of California.

Have you testified for the prosecution and defense? Plaintiff and defendant?

Yes. I have provided consultations and testimony to all parties in the judicial system. Once I am retained, my sole responsibility is to provide relevant and unbiased information to the fact finder and the judge in each case.

I am interested in becoming a forensic psychologist. Any advice?

If you'd like to know more about becoming a forensic psychologist, there's a lot of relevant information at American Psychology-Law Society (Division 41 of the American Psychological Association).
